This artwork depicts Bishamon Ten, who exterminates evil spirits that bring harm and illness. A Buddhist guardian of the north, he is also revered in Japan as a god of war. In this scene, Bishamon Ten appears on a cloud and shoots arrows at two demons attempting to interrupt a monk’s training. The demons flee in panic, but one in the rear is struck by an arrow.
