Winter Birds and Blossoms

This work represents "Winter" from a four-panel series themed on the four seasons. A boldly rendered meandering waterfall flows through the scene, with plum and camellia blossoms in bloom. Sparrows and a male and female pheasant huddle together, as if seeking warmth. Considered Lü Ji’s greatest masterpiece, it also influenced Japanese art from the Muromachi period onward.
