Eccentric Poet-Monks

Hanshan and Shide were poet-monks of the Tang dynasty, known for their eccentric behavior as symbols of spiritual enlightenment. Zen painters favored them as subjects, with Hanshan often holding a scroll and Shide a broom. Their humorous appearance is memorable, and they are regarded as incarnations of Manjushri and Samantabhadra.
