This illustrated scroll depicts the miraculous legends of Kasuga Gongen, the guardian deity of the Fujiwara clan, created in gratitude for their prosperity and hopes for continued success. The scene shows Fujiwara no Tadazane seated with his father-in-law, Minamoto no Toshifusa. Painted on delicate silk, it has survived for over 700 years in near-perfect condition, and its intricate details give it high historical value.
