17th-Century Samurai Style

This armor was used by Matsudaira Ienori, the feudal lord of Iwamura Castle in Mino Province. The term "Dōmaru" refers to the section that protects the upper body. Originating from the simple "Haramaki" armor worn by low-ranking infantry in the mid-Heian period, "Dōmaru" evolved over time and was eventually adopted by high-ranking warriors. While armor plates are typically tied with thread or leather cords, this piece features distinctive white lacing.
